Ways to have a relaxed body and happy skin

Stress is a normal part of life. In fact, we can't be 100% stress-free while we are alive. But, we can manage stress better through activities that promote self-care rather than self-harm (vices).

TAKE A BREAK AND MEDITATE

When feeling stressed to the point of getting anxious, I would normally take a break, do a corpse pose, meditate and take deep breaths. This enables me to resume work with a clear mind and calm disposition.

TAKE A BREAK IN NATURE

Results of a study titled "Levels of Nature and Stress Response" by Alan Ewert and Yun Chan and published on PubMed Central (PMC), found that visiting natural environments reduces a person's stress.

TAKE A BREAK AND GET A MASSAGE

A massage helps reduce anxiety, stress, lowers blood pressure, relax the muscles and improve posture.

There are days when I long for a getaway. When there's not enough cash for a visit to the countryside, I would go to my happy place - Spa Riviera - for a foot massage and facial.

I have patronized Spa Riviera for 18 years as of this writing. I like their offerings, professionalism, and respect for guests’ privacy. The spa areas for the males and females are on different floors; this means different locker rooms, different tea lounges, and sauna.

In one of my chats with the CEO, Anna Marie Rivera-Wharton (aka Babes), she shared: "Our therapists know that they play a very huge role and that is to give people the relaxation that they need."

According to Babes, they offer Hupay Massage, which is ideal for workaholics. "The concentration is on the head, neck, and upper back. In this one-hour-ten-minute service, aromatherapy, as well as breathing techniques are applied," she said.

"We have made it our advocacy to tell people to have time for breaks and relax. So, we organize talks on handling stress. During the talk, the attendees are taught some simple massage techniques," Babes said.

TAKE A BREAK AND CARE FOR YOUR SKIN

Nowadays, people especially the young put importance not only on relaxation but they also want to have beautiful skin.

Caring for the skin should be a part of one's rest and relaxation. It includes:

(1) drinking at least 8 glasses of water daily
(2) making fruits and vegetables a part of your daily intake
(3) limiting sun exposure during mid-day. I would do my walking before 8 a.m. to get my daily dose of vitamin D. During mid-day, I use an umbrella.
(4) using hypoallergenic and fragrance-free cleansers, moisturizers, serums, and sunscreen daily.
(5) lowering one's stress level. I notice that when I'm stressed, my skin feels itchy.

Relatedly, Spa Riviera is offering skincare services that are aligned with their "Relaxed Body and Happy Skin" direction.

One of them is Glow Spa and it did make good on its promise of giving me "glowing skin" after a session. One can avail it for P350 per session or P999 for 3 sessions in their General Luna branch.

The other one is the J-Beauty Facial, a 10-step ritual towards radiant and healthy skin. It was inspired by the Japanese beauty regimen wherein the skin is nourished with a gentle cleanse, multiple layers of hydration, masking, application of serums, and facial massages.

They also offer organic facial and whitening body scrubs.

"Even if you have wonderful makeup skills, forgetting to protect your skin with brightening products will result in a dull-looking complexion," Spa Riviera stated on its Facebook page.

Though it would seem that these offerings will appeal only to the younger generation or the millennials, I believe that even X Gens like me will benefit from them.

Our body is like a machine that breaks down for lack of care and rest. So, it’s recommended to work smart and give time for "me" time./
