Bong Revilla juggles Senate and showbiz career
Senator Bong Revilla still looked handsome despite having slept only an hour Saturday after doing a taping, then flying to Iloilo to grace the Iloilo Dinagyang Festival 2013 and promote his currently running epic teleserye Indio over GMA Network every weeknight.

Juggling his time as a senator and actor is no walk in the park for Revilla, but with time management and sacrifices on his part, he’s able to do it, he said.
“Monday to Wednesday, nagtatrabaho ako sa Senado. Kung may committee hearing on Thursday to Friday, trabaho pa rin. Pag may break, trabaho naman sa GMA. Kaya inagahan naming ang taping (Indio) dahil ayaw ko ng hand-to-mouth na i-tape ngayon at i-air tonight. Baka hindi na ako makatulog nya,” he said.
“Ayaw kong sabihin ng tao na senador ako, pinapabayaan ko ang trabaho ko. Alam ng mga kasama ko sa senado na hindi ko nagpapabaya,” he added.
Revilla revealed that he had to undergo workshops under directors Laurice Guillen and Pen Medina because unlike his previous action roles, this one requires more drama.
“Dati, kung ano si Bong Revilla, yon ang makikita nyo sa screen. Dati, I don’t care. Nakatutok sa akin ang kaibigan kong si Philip Salvador. I told him to help me. If you want to improve your craft, pag-aralan mo,” he said.
He also had to learn traditional Tagalog words. “Ang mga Tagalog, malalim, matalinhaga. Minsan 10 pages ang i-memorize. Tapos, lahat pa ng nuances like dito kailangan galit ka......”
“Pero, marami na akong nabasang script. Eto, hindi mo mabibitawan. Ma-hook ka talaga,” he added.
He also revealed that his wife, Lani Mercado is very supportive of the project. “Palagi niyang pinapanood.”
Isn’t Lani jealous of his many leading ladies here? “Hinihintay nga nya ang mga kissing scenes,” he joked. “Sa kanya nga ako nagseselos,” he added.
Jennylyn Mercado, Rhian Ramos and Maxene Magalona are Revilla’s leading ladies in Indio.
The other actors are Agot Isidro, Jackielou Blanco, Solenn Heussaff, Sam Pinto, Sheena Halili, Rocco Nacino, Michael de Mesa, Jomari Yllana, Bobby Andrews and Ramon Christopher.
Revilla is also aware that another network has created a teleserye starring Coco Martin in order to rival Indio. The senator said it’s friendly competition. “Di naman kailangang pag-awayin ang dalawang networks. Although labanan ng network ratings yan. But on my part, gagawa ako ng isang proyekto na minsan ko lang gagawin. Habang bata pa tayo. Hindi ko ini-expect na ganito kalaki ang proyekto na binigay ng GMA. More pressure. But sabi ko nga, no regrets. All praises ako sa bosses ko sa GMA sa pagmamahal nila sa akin.”* (Kathy Villalon, The News Today Libre, January 28)
