Return of the De Luxe Sandwich at Steps of Rome
“I want to give Ilonggos something that is straightforward during the holidays,” said premiere chef and restaurateur Pauline Gorriceta-Banusing.
That is why she is dishing out “Holiday Cravings” this December in Steps of Rome, a favourite fine dining haven at Plazuela de Iloilo. The fare includes:
· Belgian Waffle Dulce de Leche with Blueberries and Pistachio Cream
· Croque Madame with Mortadella Ham, Gruyere Cheese and Bechamel Sauce
· Spanish Chorizo, Bell Peppers, Smoked Salmon and Cheese Fritata served with toasts
· Big Breakfast of the Champions; a powerful combination of sausage, ham, Spanish chorizo, omelette, garlic rice and toast with jam.
· A double decker deal with chicken chunks and salami generously topped with our velvety de luxe sauce
· Cookie Butter, Jelly and Chocolate Warm Waffle with Cream
Meanwhile, Steps of Rome’s daily buffet continues this “Super December”.
Every Monday and Tuesday, treat yourself and the gang to Deliciosa, an Eat-All-You-Can pizza and pasta buffet for only P99 anytime between 11am and 8pm. Every Wednesday, it’s another Eat-All-You-Can-Order pizza and pasta with iced tea fare for only P129 between 11am and 8pm.
If you love burgers, then go on a Thursdate at Steps of Rome’s Gourmet Burgers for half the price between 11am and 8pm. Every Friday and Saturday dinner and Sunday lunch and dinner, a fare of international flavors, US roast beef and pasta station is laid out for the Weekend International Buffet for only P299 for adults and only P150 for children below 7 years old.
On December 24 and 25, go on a Christmasdate with your family or the gang in Steps of Rome’s Christmas Buffet from 6pm to 10pm for only P350.
My favourite hangout in the 1980’s was Try Me, a restaurant owned by Chef Pauline’s family and every visit was not complete without their popular, mouth-watering and uber delicious Try Me Deluxe Sandwich; a double decker cheese and ham sandwich covered with a creamy sauce. Even a decade after Try Me was closed, people who frequented the place could never forget their best sandwich ever.
So, everybody’s pretty excited upon knowing that the De Luxe sandwich is now in Steps of Rome. This time, it is a double decker sandwich chicken chunks and salami generously topped with their velvety de luxe cream.
“I had to tweak it a little bit since the milk that was used in the original recipe is not sold in any grocery store these days. Many wanted me to bring it back since it was their favorite; it reminded them of their first date, their first paycheck, their family outing. Just too many memories,” said Chef Pauline.
De luxe memories, indeed. Bon appétit!By Marie Katherine Villalon
