Why going organic is good for us

Image
There are several benefits that Ilonggos can get from becoming advocates of organic agriculture.
First, good health. Organically grown products are natural and healthy because they are free from synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, preservatives and additives. They do not come from genetically-modified seeds.
Second, food security amid climate change. Organic crops are very resilient compared to those grown using conventional systems. The 30-year side-by-side Farming Systems Trial (FST) at Rodale Institute showed that organic systems were almost three times as resilient as conventional systems.
Third, profitable.  Instead of buying costly pesticides, farmers cultivate soil organisms, pollinators, plants, birds and other animals. The Rodale study again showed that organic systems were almost three times as profitable as conventional systems.
In a convention of organic farmers I attended many years ago, one farmer shared his experience with conventional farming. “I used pesticides before. Bec…

New Chevrolet models offer more safety, performance

Image
Chevrolet, an American automobile brand was created more than 100 years ago. At that time, its makers, road racer Louis Chevrolet and General Motors founder Billy Durant targeted the working class. This explains the bowtie on Chevrolet’s logo.
Chevrolet started out with trucks but eventually manufactured cars and SUVs that promise comfort, performance and safety. Now, Chevrolet has a car and model for every life stage and purpose, making it one of the world’s largest car brands.

The brand’s high standard did not escape global attention, including that of the Philippines. In 2008, Chevrolet entered the Philippine market. In 2014, Chevrolet posted a Philippine automotive industry ranking of 7th and a record of 70% increase in sales.
Chevrolet is also present in Iloilo City for 10 years now. According to Jan Andrew Po, president of distributor Grand Cars, Inc., Ilonggos love the Chevrolet brand. In fact, Atty. Albert Arcilla, national president and managing director said that Iloilo enjoys …

Sarabia Jewelry: a heritage brand that is three generations strong

Image
Three generations in my family patronized Sarabia Jewelry; my grandparents, parents and me. I bought my only pair of gold earrings from their main store more than 10 years ago.

Sarabia Jewelry was founded by Amparo Divinagracia Sarabia in 1945. Their first store is located at Guanco Street.
Her love for her work, her integrity, honesty, and personalized service has endeared people to the brand. This tradition of elegance, excellence, and ethics continues up to this day, thanks to her daughter Gina Sarabia-Espinosa who studied at the Gemological Institute of America to become a certified gemologist. With her sharp business acumen, she was able to produce more products and designs that met customers’ demands as well as expanded to more areas in Panay Island.

Currently the company’s president, Gina envisions Sarabia Jewelry as a heritage brand. “I am an artist and I love arts and our heritage, so I want to incorporate it in our brand,” she said.
Gina’s daughter, Regina inherited the artisti…

Forever21, a brand that originated from California in 1984 and entered the Philippine market in 2010, is now closer to Ilonggos with its opening at SM City Iloilo’s new wing.

The 700 square meter store located at the 2nd floor of the mall, will feature collections for women, men and plus-size individuals. Forever 21’s newest women’s collections that are geared for boho, military, prep, sporty and 90s street style will be on display at the store. These include distressed denim, bomber jackets and sleek French coats.

Fashionistas who love the Forever 21 brand need not go to Manila to shop! The good news was announced last September 16 during Forever pre-opening party at Bluejay Coffee where Iloilo’s style influencers and lifestyle bloggers attended.
Ryl Beltran, marketing manager of Forever 21 said that based on their social media interactions with fans, many Ilonggos clamor for Fore…
