Various schools, business establishments, barangay residents and non-governmental organizations in this city have pledged to clean up the Iloilo River.
"We are happy that efforts to clean the river are snowballing even as we hope for continued support from everyone,” Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog said.
The river clean-up is spearheaded by City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) in cooperation with Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), barangay Officials, schools and business establishments.
CENRO assistant department head Ma. Cristina Octavio said volunteers usually gather 400 kg to 700 kg of waste in designated place based on previous clean-up operations.
