Mrs. Wharton Pastries: sweet yet guilt-free

Mrs. Wharton Pastries reminds me of the London that I see in the movies. Girlfriends seated across each other, exchanging stories and laughter while enjoying their favorite cake and tea.

The place is intimate, homey and air-conditioned and is home to some of the best cakes and pastries I have ever tasted.

You see, I am not a fan of sweets. In addition to that, we have a family history of diabetes, so it is best to be careful. That is why I am quite happy to have known and yes, tasted Mrs. Wharton’s pastries and cakes. They taste really good sans the sweetness overload. Sweet without the guilt.

"I do not like pastries that are too sweet," said Anna Marie Rivera-Wharton, owner. This is the reason why she uses sugar in her cake in moderation.

"After work, you just look forward to your favorite dessert and tea. That is our evening ritual," said Mrs. Wharton.

Every day, there are certain cakes and pastries that are available. Their bestsellers are Apple Cinnamon which is a cross between a bread and a cake, Red Velvet cake which is moist and with frosting that is not too sweet; and the heart-shaped British Pudding which according to Mrs. Wharton, makes her feel at home.

They also have Caramel Chocolate and Salted Caramel tarts, which are Mrs. Wharton’s favorites.

Then there are the sweet little things. Ideal as a gift, the Love Box consists of Red Velvet cupcake, Chocolate Ganache cupcake, Brownie Pudding and Creme Brulee. It costs only P150 a box.

Their offerings are not limited to cakes and pastries. Recently, Mrs. Wharton introduced the Pulled Pork Sandwich which is quite similar to a corned pork sandwich but healthier because she uses non-processed pork. They also have Lasagna which is so creamy.

Sharing a cake or pastry is one of the best ways to create good memories, happiness and even come up with great ideas for a project.
