S&R Iloilo reduces the need for balikbayan boxes

These and other benefits are seen with the opening of S&R Membership Shopping in Iloilo City.

"S&R is a membership shopping club modeled after the warehouse membership shopping chains in the United States," stated their company press release.

In fact, some Ilonggos based in the United States said that it looks like Costco, a popular warehouse shopping center in the U.S.

"We provide imported merchandise at the lowest possible price, focused on driving profitable sales and improving their members' purchasing power," the press release further stated.

"Our low club pricing program results from our efforts to scour the world for products that can offer S&R members the best value for their money," it added.

S&R Iloilo's opening also opened employment opportunities for Ilonggos. Eighty percent of their employees are Ilonggos. Those living in Manila were also given the chance to come back home and be with their families here.

How to be an S&R member

To become a member of S&R, you can register at their warehouse at Donato Pison Avenue, Barangay San Rafael, Mandurriao, Iloilo City.

Bring two (2) valid identification cards with photos, fill out the membership form, pay the annual membership fee, and wait for your photograph to be taken and your membership card released.

Membership fees

There is the Gold Membership which is available for those aged 18 years old and above at a membership fee of P700 valid for 12 months from the date of enrolment of the primary cardholder. For an extension card, pay P400. The secondary cardholder should be an immediate family member.

There's the Business Membership for business owners and managers. This allows the purchase of products for business, personal and resale use. The membership fee is P900 with one free add-on card. Members may add up to three additional cardholders.
