5 reasons to eat at Soi - eat Thai, love Thai

One of the distinct features of authentic Thai food is the balance of spicy, salty, sweet, sour and bitter flavors. One can enjoy all these flavors in just one dish. This harmony is what I love about Thai food and I found it in Soi - eat Thai, love Thai. Let me share the five reasons why I would dine at Soi Thai Restaurant again:

Full-flavored yet light

Soi’s dishes are full-flavored and vibrant yet light. We love to eat, so we would usually order not less than four dishes. During our first visit, we even had about nine! And on every occasion, we leave Soi full but without that feeling of being bloated. I believe that a dining experience includes how one feels afterward.

Mild or Spicy

You get to choose whether they should cook your food spicy or mild.

Sukothai, a Soi original, and best-seller is quite memorable as it is served piping hot and spicy but in a pleasant way. Its main ingredients are flat noodles imported from Thailand, shrimp, monggo sprouts, cilantro, peanuts, and spices.

If it becomes too hot to handle, I would sip Thai milk tea - a black tea, sugar, anise, and milk concoction.

Another popular dish at Soi is Pad Thai that comes in three varieties - chicken, tofu and shrimp. During our second visit, we had it mild but paired with Minced Roasted Duck which is spicy. We added the tender and crisp duck meat as an additional ingredient to Pad Thai. Our visit to Soi would not be complete without this pairing.

By the way, not all Thai dishes are spicy. Another favorite - Chicken Leg Barbecue - is light tasting but it was the sauce that made it utterly delicious. It is highly recommended. Their Chicken Pandan, too!

There are condiments placed on every table so one can adjust the flavor by adding salt, vinegar, sugar or chili. So far, we have no complaints about the food that we ordered at Soi as they are all delicious.

Clean kitchen

The kitchen is located in an open space behind their counter so you can see that their area is clean and that the staff are following hygienic practices while preparing our feast.

The food choices are reasonably priced and are good for sharing by 2-3 persons. Some of the Thai food that we ordered and their prices as of this writing are Fresh Spring Rolls P168, Minced Roasted Duck P288, Pomelo Salad with Shrimps P288, Prawn Cakes P268, Sukothai P328, Pad Thai P298, Chicken Leg Barbecue P290, Stir-Fried Grilled Pork with Shrimp Paste P178 and Vegetarian Rice P128.

Accessible

Soi is located in SM City Iloilo which is accessible for me who takes one jeepney - Leganes SM Highway - from home. Other PUJs that pass by the mall are City Proper-SM City Iloilo and Mandurriao. Soi is on the ground floor, near the Admin office.

The place is small and usually packed during peak dining hours. So, it’s advisable to be there as early as 11 a.m. for lunch or 6 p.m. for dinner.

So, if you’re craving for fresh, healthy, and authentic Thai food, head over to Soi Restaurant. Sawadee Ka!/
