Janiuay to have clean, continual water supply

You know how it is to have a limited water supply. Not being able to take a bath on time, wash the dishes or clean the house can take a toll on one's well-being.

The residents of Janiuay are no stranger to this dilemma. There used to be a time when they would have a water supply for two days in a week only and when it does happen, the water is turbid.

Taking Action

Desirous for a better water supply that her fellow town mates deserve, Janiuay Water District General Manager Sharon Rose Brasileno sought the help of Citicore Summa Water Corporation (CSWC), a joint venture firm between emerging utility holding firm Citicore Power Inc. (CPI) and water systems technical expert Summa Water Resources, Inc.

Thus, its subsidiary CSWater Iloilo is now handling the water supply and distribution in the municipality of Janiuay.

A government-owned and controlled corporation under the supervision of the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA), the Janiuay Water District's task is to monitor CSWater Iloilo.

Expertise

CS Water Iloilo has the engineering expertise, water metering solution and infrastructure rehabilitation and maintenance program, thus it can cope with the increasing demand of Janiuaynons for better service as well as limit water usage waste.

"Water is a precious resource in Janiuay as we face challenges with water shortages and access to clean drinking water. With the help of CSWater, we can ensure that treated water is not lost during delivery. This is a critical step in improving water access in the community," said CSWater General Manager Andrew Margarico.

Current Projects

"Now we are focusing currently on the Non-Revenue Water (NRW) like illegal connections and pilferages. We will give attention to the efficient regular supply of water, and ensure 24-hour service even during brownouts and summer," Atty. Mike Margarico, legal counsel of Janiuay Water District, told the media during their office launching, July 29, 2019.

CSWater has already deployed an NRW team to prepare for the rehabilitation and upgrade of the water system.

CS Water Iloilo has also activated an additional payment center -- Landbank -- and will increase more payment centers in the coming months. It has also activated the Read and Bill system.

Expect More Improvements

But there's more work to be done. Gradually, CS Water Iloilo will:

  • rehabilitate old facilities such as the reservoirs in Barangays Damo-ang and Golgota.
  • repair pipe leaks, defective meters, and illegal connections
  • upgrade the monitor system performance to better track water usage to ensure that resources are being used efficiently
  • expansion of water networks
  • upgrade the water treatment plant from 2MLD to 5MLD
  • deploy smart metering, accessible payment centers, and portable data collection

With this, consumers can expect:

  • improved efficiency of drinking water supply
  • reduced water losses
  • shorten the period of water shortages and interruption
  • improved customer service

Coverage

GM Brasileno revealed that currently, they are serving 24 out of 60 barangays which cover approximately 2200 households. But, they aim to serve more.

"Realistically we can serve only 40 barangays because of the topography (undulating) of the town. But we are undertaking studies on how to provide water in the mountainous areas," Brasileno said.

CS Water Iloilo's sources are the surface water from Suage River (one of the river tributaries of Jalaur River) and 5 dug wells. (Watch: How CSWater Iloilo sources its water)

"It is our privilege to serve Janiuaynons to better manage the delivery and use of water," GM Margarico concluded./
