BDO Foundation improves country's rural health centers

Residents in rural areas where big hospitals are far, deserve better health care. Thus, the BDO Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of BDO Unibank is rehabilitating the country's health centers.

To date, BDO Foundation has renovated 111 health centers in the Philippines. In Iloilo, these are the DueƱas Municipal Health Office, Barotac Viejo Municipal Health Office and Birthing Facility, and Mina Municipal Health Center.

The latest center to be renovated is the Corella Regional Health Unit that is located in Corella, a 5th class municipality in Bohol. The center includes a delivery room, surgery area, treatment area, staff room, vaccine room, public health care, Philhealth office, and more. The center was turned over by the foundation to the LGU in July 2021.

More locals will benefit from the improvements as they are more encouraged to avail of basic health services offered in the center.

BDO Foundation president Mario Derequito and Corella Mayor Hilario Tocmo

Mayor Hilario Tocmo of Corella shared that BDO Foundation is a blessing to Corella, which has the second-lowest IRA in Bohol. As it is a 5th class municipality, Corella has minimal resources.

BDO Foundation president Mario Derequito hopes that the RHU can provide strong support to the LGU, protect the people from Covid-19 and other health threats.

The initiative, which started in 2012, was made possible with the support of BDO and BDO Network Bank branches, whose officers recommend health centers that need rehabilitation./
