CEB eyes more flights to Australia

The Philippines’ leading airline, Cebu Pacific, is keen on expanding its operations in Australia on the back of growing passenger traffic.  In January 2015, CEB carried 13,875 passengers, more than any other carrier operating direct flights to Sydney from Manila.
Cebu Pacific started operating four times weekly non-stop flights to Sydney on September 9, 2014. The airline added a fifth frequency after three months.
From September to December 2014, Australia’s Bureau of Infrastructure Trade and Regional Economics (BITRE) reported a 42% increase in passenger traffic between Sydney and Manila. Prior to CEB’s entry, passenger traffic in the route had been growing at a compound annual growth rate of 8% over five years.


CEB is fully utilizing its seat entitlements to Australia. It is set to participate in air talks which will be held in Canberra, Australia on April 28.

Megaworld to open two new hotels this year

Two new hotels to offer 631 rooms in Newport City and Iloilo Business Park
Megaworld, the country’s leader and pioneer in developing integrated urban townships, is opening two new hotels this year in its two townships in Metro Manila and Iloilo.
Richmonde Hotel Iloilo, which will occupy eight levels of the 12-storey Richmonde Tower in the 72-hectare Iloilo Business Park in Mandurriao, Iloilo City, is set to open in June this year. The business hotel will be the first Richmonde Hotel outside of Metro Manila and will have 151 guest rooms.


It will house a restaurant and deli, function rooms, business center, fitness gym as well as a lap pool with its own pool bar.
Megaworld has commissioned world-renowned architectural firm Gettys to design the hotel’s façade, grand lobby, restaurant and guest rooms. Gettys took inspiration from the city’s rich agricultural roots for the hotel’s design concept.

Plant trees before marriage

ILOILO, Philippines – The Catholic Church, especially the Archdiocese of Jaro in Iloilo City, Philippines, is urging the faithful to support the reforestation campaign of the government by planting trees one year and four months after Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) uprooted thousands of trees, including some century-old trees in this province.


Rev. Msgr. Higinio C. Velarde, JCD, representing Abp. Angel N. Lagdameo, D.D., acknowledged the threats posed by the effects of climate change and reiterated that everyone must do something about it. The affected areas need an immediate massive reforestation.

Five certified adventure seekers are all set to join the Cebu Pacific Juan for Fun Backpacker Challenge, signing up as this year’s Adventure Coaches. TV host and actress Iya Villania, musician Champ Lui Pio, YouTube star Bogart the Explorer, travel writer Jude Bacalso, and host and DJ Joyce Pring, have signed up as mentors for the five student teams going on an all-expenses-paid trip across Cebu Pacific’s extensive network.

Megaworld’s GERI profit up by 151% in 2014

Megaworld’s Global-Estate Resorts Inc. (GERI), the Philippines’ leading tourism estate developer,  enjoyed a 151% growth in its net income last year from P341 million in 2013 to P857 million (inclusive of P377 million non-recurring gain) in 2014.  Without non-recurring gain, its net income rose to P480 million, a 41% increase year-on-year and almost double growth than in 2012 when its net income was P264 million.

GERI’s total revenues last year almost doubled – from P1.71 billion in 2013 to P3.36 billion in 2014; that’s around 97% growth year-on-year. Thanks to the P2.04-billion real estate sale of residential projects in Southwoods City and Alabang West.
GERI has has launched five projects: Pahara at Southwoods and Holland Park Tower 1 in Southwoods City; Alabang West Village; The Vineyard Residences – Shiraz Tower in Twin Lakes; and Sta. Barbara Heights Phase III in Iloilo.

Book flights, check in with Cebu Pacific's mobile app for Android

Cebu Pacific Air (PSE:CEB) rolls out its mobile app for Android, to make booking and checking in for flights more convenient for its passengers.


With the mobile app, travelers can book one-way or roundtrip flights for up to 14 passengers on CEB and Tigerair Philippines flights. During the booking process, passengers can also purchase prepaid baggage allowance or select seat assignments. Only credit cards are accepted for mobile app flight bookings.
Meanwhile, guests with existing flight bookings may also check in for their flights using the mobile app.
Mobile check-in is available from 72 hours up to four hours for international flights, and up to two hours for domestic flights. Seats will be automatically be assigned for those with no pre-purchased seat assignments. Boarding passes can be saved as an image or printed straight from the Android device.
Guests can do mobile check-in for up to 14 passengers. It will be initially available for those with web or mobile bookings only.

Property giant to spend P65B for 2015 for new residential, office, retail and hotel developments across townships

Property giant Megaworld, the country’s leading developer of integrated urban townships and the no. 1 business process outsourcing (BPO) office landlord and developer, is allocating P285.8-billion for its 5-year capital spending program until 2019 to develop its various townships all over the country. The new capital expenditure (CAPEX) is a new adjustment to capital spending as it supersedes the five-year CAPEX of P230-billion that was announced last year.

“We have adjusted our capital spending to pave the way for the expansion of offerings in our existing townships and for the new additional township projects that we recently announced,” says Francisco Canuto, senior vice president and corporate information officer, Megaworld.
